How reliable is the Ford Freestyle? I see more transmission complaints on carcomplaints.com than the Five Hundred, which has the same transmission. What is going on here?

The sad thing is that the transmission is a 6 speed automatic made by AISIN, the same company that supplies Toyota. They just can't incorporate them. I think the Fusion is the best vehicle they made in the late 2000s era.

I though that it only had a cvt from the five hundred? And is this the 6 speed scotty said fell apart?

Oh actually the Freestyle only came with the CVT which Scotty said was decent but the 6 speed is the one that fell apart, like Scotty said.

Is there a reason why the transmissions in the Freestyle have more issues than the 500?

I am actually not sure but hey even the same transmission has different problems like the 6 speed auto is absolute junk in the 500 but it was made by Aisin, while the same transmission is in the Fusion and is perfectly fine.

With all of this I would avoid the Freestyle.

It's actually a different Asin transmission in both. The ford fusion has an Asin F21 6 speed transmission and the Five Hundred has an Asin TF-80 6 speed transmission.

Actually the Ford Fusion and Ford 500 have the same TF-80 transmission.
The list of Ford cars with this transmission is below:
Ford Motor Company
Ford
2005–2007 Ford Five Hundred
2006–2012 Ford Fusion (US)[7][nb 6]
2007–2014 Ford Mondeo MkIV 2.3 160 PS Petrol and 2.0 TDCi Diesel[8]
2006–2014 Ford Galaxy 2.3 118kw / 160PS Petrol (as standard gearbox)

I haven't heard good things about them, and yes mostly it is transmission problems I hear about.

I don't have those through my shop so I can only speak on what I have heard from other mechanics. It is enough that I wouldn't buy one myself.
