Any opinions or experiences with Fords new 7.3 GODZILLA V8? Looking to buy one. I know it hasn’t been around to long but I’d like to hear what everyone has to say. I appreciate it.
I don’t have experience with this engine as it’s fairly new, but it’s got a couple noteworthy things going for it: naturally aspirated, overhead valve V8 (aka pushrod), port injection (and no GDI), cast iron block, forged steel crank, a detuned version will be used in commercial vehicles. Seems like a good option for folks that want more towing capability but not go whole hog with a diesel. It will be mated with the 10-speed automatic, which still concerns me in terms of long term reliability.
I hope it holds up; time will tell.
Update: Looks like the 10-speed AT will be upgraded as well for heavier duty applications, so it WON’T be the same one used in the F-150. I’d wait a few years and see how the engine/transmission hold up.
Too pricey for me. All my customers that are doing custom builds are holding off on it until more data is available on how it really holds up in the real world.
