Ford V8 new oil pump belt + Cylinders deactivation technology

Hi Scotty,

What you think about the V8 Coyote V8 new design including:

1) Oil pump belt: Ford replaced the chain with belt, and they recommended frequent inspection. I believe this is a stupid design, but my question how I our the mechanic inspect the belt while it is inside the engine? And do you think really this belt will last for the life of the vehicle 15-20 years?

2) Cylinders deactivation technology: what will be the damage in long term for driving the vehicle with only 4 cylinder instead of 8 and how I can shutdown safely the deactivation feature without affecting on warranty?

Thanks,

Most manufacturers don't target that kind of vehicle life. Really all they care about is that it will get through the warranty period.

Agree, then Scotty recommended to buy the V8 not the turbo for the f150. Do you think it is still good idea to buy the f150 with the cylinder deactivation and oil pump belt? I started to feel the turbo is better than the V8 (both are bad just we are taking now which one is the worst)

Hard to say. It's like deciding between being shot or hung.

Cylinder deactivation is horrible and causes premature wear.
