frame rails rot

Topic starter

96 dodge 1500 4wd. The front frame rails are rusted through. The sway bar bushings are coming off.

Truck has 200k on it this, and as hard as it is to believe this is the only trouble I have ever had with it.

Both bushing brackets are broken off. I called the three body shops in my rural area ,NE Washington

and all of them seem to want to pay off the mortgage with what they want to charge me.

can anyone give advice on this problem? thanks

I've had work done on an old Dodge van before and most exhaust shops would not touch it for a small steering box repair. I finally found a frame shop that fixed it and they managed to get it almost right. Really what you got here is a liability issue. Either a little fabrication to get it fixed good or cut off some good ones in a wrecking yard and a little fabrication to get it fixed good. SO the bottom must be completely rusted and they need to flange to get something solid to weld too. Its actually not such a little job unless you got a 2000 square foot shop and some excellent fabricators on staff. You will get what you pay for.

restoration isn't cheap. It might be time to put the old girl down.
