My aunt and uncle are giving me a 2013 Ford edge with 92,000 miles should I accept it? I hear nothing wrong starts up good it does have a slight tick in the engine. This is a free car. They are not charging me.
If it runs and drives OK you can't beat free. Just don't put a lot of money in it, get rid of the thing if it breaks down needing serious repairs.
should I accept it?
Sure! A free car, is a free car.
You should accept it.
Except for the EcoBoost engine, the rest of the car is very solid -
Even with the EcoBoost it can last 125k-150k miles if serviced well.
On the old generation of the EcoBoost, the Volvo B4204T6:
The main issue is it destroying pistons due to detonation - you can find a lot of into about it online.
(For example, https://www.stratifiedauto.com/blog/keeping-the-tuned-ecoboost-2-0-alive-and-kicking-butt/)
According to the internet, the exhaust manifold wears out and creates metallic dust that wears the turbine.
Also, it can misfire or run incorrectly due to PCV valve issues and fuel injectors getting dirty.
Injector tick is very typical for GDi engines - usually that's the cause.
It's not terrible - it's just not a good engine at all.
And yet, for free? it's definitely good enough to care for and enjoy!
Nothing is free. You are accepting responsibility for insuring and maintaining and operating the vehicle in a manner that won't harm anyone. That is a heavy price to pay.
Before they give it to me in a couple weeks, they’re going to have it looked over and have everything fixed that needs to be fixed there well-off people and they don’t want to give me junk
yeah of course if it runs.
But be aware it's a problematic vehicle with expensive consequences (water pump replacement is an engine-out situation) so be extremely diligent with it or it will bite you.
