Filled up my wife’s 2016 Ford Escape with 43,009 miles and after driving one day and 36 miles of city driving the gas tank is already down a quarter tank. Is this normal?
I made the calculations and that basically means you averaged 9 miles per gallon.
15.5 gallon tank / 4 = 3.8 gallons
and 36 miles / 3.8 gallons = 9.5 MPG)
Usually they average around 17-20 mpg.
drive it some more and if you see that it continues to consume fuel like a hummer…

Fill up the tank again till the auto shut off, to eliminate a bad fuel gauge. Did you get stuck in a gridlock within those 36 miles?
This may be a dumb question, but have you verified there’s no leaks or if someone hasn’t just stolen your fuel?
