Good evening everyone hope all is well. 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo cheers to a lil over 184K miles. I've encountered a fuel overflow problem. Is it the fuel system in the vehicle or is it the pumps fault? When the needle got to F the nozzle didn't click and kept goin all the way till there was an overflow and fuel came leaking out from the left rear of the vehicle. I encountered it today at Sheetz. I feel its the pumps fault and it robbed me but I could be wrong

are you fueling up with the engine running?

No sirrrrrrrrr

Wait, so what needle are you talking about?

And this happens every time?

are you putting the nozzle in straight, and all the way?

Fuel gauge needle and it happened once it may happen again which I sure hope not but I do indeed put it all the way in straight

if the needle is moving then the ignition is on. It shouldn't be

Oh nah I always ensure it's completely off but turns out it was the pump itself cause I tried another fuel station and it clicked when it got full

fuel overflow problem

Check for a blocked fuel vent hose or a problem with the EVAP system. This happened to me a year ago. It turned out that the fuel pump's nozzle was broken.

Turned out to be the pumps fault

Thanks for update and hopefully you didn't waste any money on EVAP repairs. I changed gas stations as a result and my car started getting better gas mileage Cool

Oh nah I didnt which I will say it does have an EVAP leak which is common with Grand Cherokee's but that's whats up

If it's never done it before and you know that another gas pump works, just move gas pumps or go to a different station. My 2017 Mustang overflowed once. I changed gas stations and it's been fine, since. The fuel pump is either not calibrated properly, or the venturis don't work. Gas was spewing out of the gas tank, I felt like that scene from Dumb and Dumber when Harry overfills the gas tank, lol.

I'll try that for sure

Yyep indeed was the pump itself
