Hi Scotty, I drive a 1997 Dodge Dakota that has a 318 engine. Almost a year ago I was driving down the road and my truck completely lost power and wouldn't start. So I had to get it towed and the mechanic said my fuel pump went out and I had to pay 800 for it and then about 6 months later it decided to do the same thing again and I was gonna call the dealership again but I didn't want to spend 800 again. So I heard about a local mechanic who does a good job so I called him and before I had it towed he tried to help me figure out if it is something simple I could fix before he starts his work but I couldn't get it to start so he worked on it last week and then Thursday my truck started to have a problem starting then it would turn over and start. Then later after work it acted as the fuel pump again and so I struck the pump with a hammer and it fired right up so I got it home and had to wait for the mechanic to get back with me so he said he'd look at it again but the whole time driving it there it tried dying on me but Thankfully it didn't. I was wondering if you got any ideas why it's doing this besides it being a crappy truck but right now it's all I got so I need help to figure it out so I can fix it so I can drive it with no problems so I can save up money and sell the dang truck and buy something better.
Is it an OEM pump or a Chinese knockoff?
