Hi scotty,

I just brought a Toyota Cygnus 2005 (also known as LX470) with 65000km on the odo meter, when I got the car I had it scanned via IBDII and it showed no faults. However just driving it about 500kms the car started showing faults. I had the catlic washed from a professional service and they told me that the odo meter had been reversed and the actual mileage is 180k km then all of a sudden the steering rack gave away due to busting of its pipes that connect to the oil container.

How do I make sure that such sudden incidents don’t happen again, the engine of the car is also showing some wear now as it’s releasing white smoke. The owner told me that the vehicle had been Parked under the sun for 8 months straight and it was not used at all during that time. Should I get all the hoses checked ? Do they wear if the car has been parked under the sun for so long.

PS. The vehicle is in Karachi Pakistan where temperatures can hit about 45 centigrade during the summers.

Engine: 4700cc V8 2Uzfe

Find a professional mechanic and have him check the car thoroughly. Also, that engine is an interference engine with timing belt which you should consider do the timing belt job if you decided to keep the car.

If you mean by white smoke that the head gasket is starting to go, get rid of it ASAP!

Unfortunately, it seems like the multiple problems was the reason the vehicle was parked for so long..

Next time, have the vehicle thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic, before purchase.
