How often are you supposed to replace a gas cap? I accidentally left mine off the filler neck in my Ranger the other day and surprisingly it didn't trip the check engine light. I'm not sure if my cap has ever been replaced. Would there be any benefit to replacing it? It doesn't seem to leak.
AS long as you do not have issues with it (engine code, running issue, ...), I would not change it.
I’ve never replaced one. Never had problems. They don’t really wear out
I didn't think so. Scotty talked about it a couple times and it made me curious. They seem fairly idiot and break proof, especially compared to Ford's stupid capless fillers.
They say you change it every 50,000 miles but if it was taken care of, it should last longer than that.
I never change them unless there's a problem. It's the easiest and cheapest thing to try if you have an evac leak code.
When did they implement the pressure checking to OBDII on the gas tank stuff? I'm really surprised the check engine light didn't come on with that cap being off and now I'm wondering if it was even a thing in 1999, lol.
Not sure when that started but my '99 Cherokee has a pump that's used to check for leaks in the evap system.
