Getting a new car for my son

Hello everyone, I’ve been working in the Middle East for a while now, and my son wants a new car. I’m currently stuck between three options. Normally, I’d go for a Honda or Toyota, whether new or used, but the prices are insanely high, and the used ones are often in poor condition due to previous owners. Now, I’m considering the Kia K3 (or K4 in the US), which is made in China, the Nissan Versa, made in Mexico, and the Geely Emgrand, also made in China. The Geely is quite popular here, and I’ve found a great deal on it. It also has cool tech features, like a 360-degree camera, and I’ve heard it’s reliable. My main concern is reliability. And it’s all I care about. Which one should I go for?

Toyota and Honda are more expensive than the others for a reason. Look at the long-term cost of ownership versus many others.

If you're talking about cars available in the Middle East most of us here would have no knowledge of their reliability. Geely is not sold in the U.S. directly at all, though they have a shadowy presence through Volvo.

Obviously in the U.S. Hyundai/Kia and Nissan are bad choices. Nissan might be OK with a manual transmission, other than that the company is doing quite poorly and who knows what its situation will be in a year.

"Cool tech features" are just overly-complex junk that will cost a fortune to fix when the vehicle is out of warranty.

@chucktobias I understand why Toyotas are expensive, but the prices here are just over the top. Like I mentioned, I’d definitely get one if I could, and I’ve been searching for a while now, but unfortunately, I haven’t found a clean one. So, I’m left with the other options. The Geely especially the newer models is actually one of the best selling cars here. I know a few people who’ve put a lot of mileage on theirs, and they say it’s been quite reliable. I’ve also heard that many of its parts are German made. They also have 5 years warranty or 125,000km

If you get the Geely, make sure you get the 3-cylinder turbo as that is a Volvo motor. Stay away from the 4-cylinder Mitsubishi motor.
