Hey Scotty,
I recently found a 2006 Chrysler crossfire limited coupe at a local used car dealership. The website says it has the 3.6L V6 with 17k miles in it. I am leary of most things chrysler or mercedes but my understanding is that this particular merc engine is pretty reliable especially with 17k miles. My dad and I are looking at this for my mom as a fun little roadster. They are asking $13k. Just wondering what your opinion is.
Thank you,
Evan
$13,000 for a nearly 2-decades-old Chrysler product is insane, and smacks of why dealers have earned the nickname "stealerships". The mileage is highly suspicious and would need to be verified. Even if true age still takes its toll, and cars don't like to sit unused for long periods of time which would be the case here with less than 1,000 per year on the clock.
Kelly Blue Book (whose prices tend to be inflated) peg the fair dealer price on that car to be about $9700, and that's if the mileage is true.
If you want a fun roadster a Miata would be a better choice. (Heck even an old MG or Triumph would probably be a better choice.)
In this case, the Chrysler Crossfire is a Mecedes underneath the hood. It utilizes the R170 platform and was badge engineered from a Mercedes to a Chrysler. They didn't make all that many of them. My wife wants one. Haha. I think some people are starting to collect them.
That's way too much for the car. The fact they didn't make many of them and it's a low mileage car, the dealer is trying to maximize a potential profit, hoping you won't go to KBB, etc. They don't call them "stealerships" for nothing.
