Should I change my ATF

I have a GMC 2013 Terrain 2.4 L and the tranny has 196,000 miles on it and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to totally change out the tranny fluid or to just add some if it is needed for best results ??

No one running a forum like this are going to say to do it.

I don't think the engine will blow.

But it's not my vehicle, and I have barely any information. It's a decision that only an owner can make. They need to weigh the risks and benefits themselves, and decide what their personal situation will allow them.

Only someone with access to the vehicle and service records, and who has adequate transmission experience can provide the information needed to make the decision. They can (at the very least) examine the fluid, test drive the vehicle, run diagnostic tests, measure fluid pressure, etc.

This isn't the kind of thing you leave up to people on the internet. It would be irresponsible of me to give an uninformed verdict.

Transmissions don't use up fluid. The level on the dipstick shouldn't move. If yours is going down then you have a leak my friend.

Are you having problems?    If not then I would just ride it out. You're over 100,000 miles over whats stated in your maintenance schedule which you should meet or beat.  They may not use up fluid but they wear down all the same, oil is oil.

No one running a forum like this are going to say to do it.  Next thing you know, Murphy's Law take place resulting in your engine blowing, and then you say MaintainManJoe from Scottys forums said to do it.  They're not liable but its still a bad image.
