Volvo rear breaks overheating

Hi, I have a 2004 volvo xc70. After driving for 10 min the rear driver side break will heat up and smell. I was assuming it was the caliper but im not sure because when I checked the caliper is moving freely. The brake pads have good pad left but are pretty old (7yrs). Is it most likely the the caliper sticking as it heats up or the brake pads and rotors from being old?

Thanks.

Is it most likely the the caliper sticking

maybe, or maybe you have failed rubber brake lines.

If it was the brake line wouldnt the caliper always be stuck. I tested the caliper when it was cooled off and it moved freely.

calipers do not stop your car. They just float there.
The piston is what does the squeezing.
