GMC Fuel System Code and Trouble

Dear Scotty,

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra base model truck with 82,000 miles, 5.3L.  It recently left me stranded after filling the fuel tank at a gas station.  It barely ran on start up.  I parked it quickly and cycled the ignition key OFF and then to START.  It cranked but would not start.  The next day it cranked and started normally except now with the engine light on.  Fault code is P023F.

Also, I normally heard a noise when I opened the driver door and I always thought it was the fuel pump.  I no longer hear that noise with these other symptoms.

Any help appreciated.

sounds like a failed fuel pump. Check your fuel pressure to verify.

so L83 engine I think. Direct injection, which means two stage fuel pressure. I don't have access to a service manual, so I can't tell you what specs should be. A brief internet search suggests it can go up to around 3,000 PSI.

Code P023F certainly indicate fuel pump electrical issues

I would start with checking the wiring, fuses, relays etc. and probing for voltage all along the wiring harness.

I found that the vehicle has 2x fuel pumps: the primary in the tank and the secondary under the intake manifold.

Is the P023F applicable to both or just one of them?

My brother stopped by with a diagnostic code reader!

Reading FRP, at idle = ~800psi but shows it drops to 60psi for brief periods

Working the engine against brakes with slight throttle in Drive = 1800psi and stable

Does this help with diagnostics?
