Am looking to buy a minivan for the family and was offered a 2010 Volkswagen Routan for about 2500. I lean more towards toyota but the family really likes the VW. What do you think? (I haven't looked at the mileage yet)

Toyota are more reliable...
If they sell it have you seen the toyota hellfire minivan ? It a bit of $$$$ but the luxury in that thing is like first class.

Even if the VW was offered to you for free, don't take it. That thing is basically a caravan in VW clothes, lots of issues which is why they discontinued it.
Get a sienna or odyssey, sienna being the first choice.
