So I was checking coolant and oil in my mom's sonata and I forgot use hood holder as soon as I turned around to grab coolant my hood slammed with loud bang... I didn't see dent or crack on my moms car hood and I tried to open and close it again ....should I be worried ..and I don't see hood open warning light
Okay dum question i don't have apply pressure when closing hood right
Just drop hood from 8 to 10 inches right
It should close with a drop like that. If it doesnt, I recommend opening and dropping it again. Closing it by pushing on the hood could damage the hood itself. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.
naww u should be ok. If you look around the radiator support and hood you will find rubber stopper dampeners that make contact with some points on the hood. These absorb the impact of a hood closing suddenly and vibrations between the points of contact at high speeds. Ideally you should be bringing the hood down slowly for the first safety click, and press down for the full latch lock second click. This will prevent damage and wear to your latch mechanism and maybe help keep the paint intact. I've seen some old chevy and ford vans wear their paint out near the rear door panels because the dampeners wore and impatient people usually slammed them shut, its a rough look.
It's probably fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
The hood lift supports might be starting to fail. This is a common issue for this vehicle.
