Steel Seal

Hello Scotty,

I have an 09 Mini Cooper clubman non turbo. I believe I have a headgasket leak. I'm getting white smoke from the tailpipe. It has a funny smell to it. I don't have oil and coolant mixing to where i see it on my dip stick or my oil fill gap. I seen you spoke about Steel Seal in a video. You recommended that the thermostat be removed. However, In my mini the thermostat is part of the housing. How do I move forward with the process of using the steel seal with this information?

By the way the engine has 176,000 miles.

Scotty recommended NOT to put Steel Seal in modern vehicles.

What do the instructions on the product say?

It says to use water only. Flush first. Scotty's video said use coolant. Also, he tries to figure out where the leak is and remove the plug whilst letting the engine warm and then. Says he cycles it several times. He's fixed a lot of these, so I have to take into consideration the info from his video.

Good luck with the sealant, but I'd change the coolant right after it (hopefully) works. Why? That stuff that seals up leaks could eventually clog up other things that you don't necessarily want clogged - like your heater core, thermostat, radiator, etc.

Don't try the steel seal on a modern engine it was the old ones with green sealer the bars head gasket sealers can often be used with modern-day coolant try that

Hi Scotty,

Been told head gasgets are leaking and pressurising the expansion tank.  I have been quoted $3,000 to replace the head gaskets here in the UK..  Would it be worth trying Steel Seal?  I have been told that it will not clog up system so if it does not work then I will just get head gasgets done, is it safe to try???

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus Vulcan V6 , pretty sure there's a minor head gasket leak. No dripping, but constant coolant loss, and small amount of white smoke at the tail pipe. Purchased Steel Seal, then saw your video. Steel Seal instructions indicate must have good coolant before use, question is, do I need to replace the coolant afterwards if the Steel Seal works? Thanks, your videos are very informative and helpful.
