Hi Scotty. I have a 1997 Honda Accord with 176,000 miles. I recently took it to Firestone cause I was hearing a humming noise with driving at 50 MPH and up. They diagnosed it as needing front tires and wheel balancing. I thought it was possibly one if not both the front wheel bearings. Come to find out they missed diagnosed it and they claim it's the transmission, with no reason how they came to that diagnosis. Should I just start with the basics or get rid of it
It's a automatic transmission. Thanks for the advice.
First of all you need to stop going to Firestone, they don't know diddly and are highly likely to rip you off. (It sounds like they already have.)
You failed to indicate whether this car has an automatic transmission or manual stick shift. When is the last time that fluid was changed?
Best to take the car to a good local mechanic for a proper diagnosis and stay away from chains like Firestone, Pep Boys, Midas, etc.
Use this technique to pinpoint the source of the noise -
A humming noise at that speed is usually the wheel bearing/s..
