Hey scotty!
I have a 1991 Nissan D21 pickup manual transmission 2WD with 224k miles.
So just recently i’ve been noticing whenever i take off in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear i’ve been feeling a bit of hesitation when i accelerate. It feels like it’s being held back and when it hits a higher rpm in the gear, it takes off at the speed it’s supposed to be going. At first i thought it was the TPS but after watching your video on how to test if your TPS is bad, i tested mine and it turns out my TPS is perfectly fine. I checked fuel injectors and the MAF sensor as well.. but both are fine. And just to clarify, it’s a hesitation when i accelerate. there’s no sputtering or dying out or losing power whenever i’m giving it gas in the gear.
Pressure test your fuel pump & check for a clogged fuel filter. Do the symptoms change when driving uphill?
Also, how old is the clutch?
@inthrustwetrust
thank you for replying. no it doesn’t change when going uphill. it’s the same. It sounds like it’s accelerating normally but it feels like it’s being held back then accelerates normally when it reaches a higher RPM. the clutch is the original clutch. I do plan on replacing it soon.
I will try a fuel pump pressure test. I just recently changed the fuel filter but it doesn’t hurt to check again. thank you.
Do you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time? It may need a new clutch. But wow, you deserve an award for making the original clutch last almost 30yrs!!
