Engine not starting

I have a 2019 Subaru Forester, 20,000 miles, less than 2 years old.  The other day the engine wouldn't start, with dashboard lights blinking all over the place.  I tried jumpstarting it with the device you recommended, had a Subaru Roadside Service guy try jumpstarting it, had towtruck driver try jumpstarting it before it being towed to dealer.  Problem was battery too drained to take charge and replaced it.  Said car not being used enough to prevent drain.

My question, which I asked the service guy, but wanted confirmation, is if I get a charger and hook it up say once every few days if the car isn't used much or at all, will that prevent this problem?  Since covid, haven't been driving much.

That might be a good idea. An even simpler idea is to drive the car around the block for 15 minutes every week to keep everything up & running.

Just 15 minutes a week is enough? In any case I already ordered a charger, but don't know how often and for how long I should hook it up. When my car wouldn't start I was sure wishing Scotty was there.

15 minutes a week is the minimum, feel free to extend that to as long as you wish.

Yes it's generally a good idea to keep your battery charged especially in the cold months and if you're not driving it. I've heard of a battery lasting 12 years by being charged every week. I plan on permanently installing a 110v charger in my truck so I can just hook it up to an extension cable.

Battery charger/maintainer automatically keeps battery at full charge. It turns on and off, leave connected...except when you drive, unless you have a  l--o--n--g extension cord !
