Sounds about right for a stealership. You might want to get a quote from a good independent mechanic in your area. (Not a chain shop.)

You can get a compressor on Amazon for 3 to 4 hundred and about the same price to put it on and evacuate the system and recharge it even with r-1234yf. I would not pay more than a Thousand...
@thdesha If the compressor failed internally (like seizing up) it is necessary to also replace the condenser, dryer, expansion valve or orifice tube, and flush out the rest of the AC system. This is due to debris from the failed compressor contaminating the system. If not removed it can quickly kill the new compressor.
Additionally, Amazon is a sketchy place to purchase critical parts, with many counterfeits being sold.
