Hey Scotty I have a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse gt, with 119955 miles on it, so the code I have is a p0335 crankshaft circuit malfunction
the camshaft sensor code p0340 had came on too at some point but it hasn’t popped up for a while, as for my symptoms at first when I would fill up gas my car would sputter as if I had water in the gas tank and shake violently before shutting off, if I put transmission fluid in the car it would work fine, few weeks down the line my car would just do the same thing,
Eventually when it shuts off I have to wait 10 mins to start the car again and then it’ll start driving, last time this happened my car stopped and wouldn’t turn back on, towed it to my house and a week later it cranked
ive changed my distributor cap and rotor since for that car my cam sensor is in my distributor, I’ve changed my starter but my car is still throwing the code, I can still start and drive the car but I don’t want to risk it
im hoping it’s a false code and not the timing since the crankshaft sensor is in a hard to reach spot, I’ve also thought maybe it could be due to me having an exhaust leak right under my car the smoke from the exhaust flies up through the hood which may cause something
Eventually when it shuts off I have to wait 10 mins to start the car again and then it’ll start driving, last time this happened my car stopped and wouldn’t turn back on, towed it to my house and a week later it cranked
That is the classic failure mode of a crankshaft sensor, fails when it warms up and starts working again when it cools down - at least until it completely stops working.
You should use a scan tool to see if you're getting a crank signal when the engine won't start.
