My 09 Honda Accord LX 2.4 has a mild whiny power steering. I have changed the o rings and there are no leaks to be found. I have done my best to bleed it and yet it wont go away. Are there any liquids you recommend I can use before I consider replacing it?
When bleeding, have you turned the steering wheel lock to lock? Does the car still make noise when not touching the ground? Your power steering pump maybe the cause, I would try cheapest option first which Is a proper bleed. Turn to one side all the way (lock) and wiggle it in the same direction you turned it for around 10 seconds then vice versa, this should bleed the system. It's also good to check that you have a proper amount of P/S fluid in the reservoir first of course.
The method I tried was jacking it up and turning the key to 2 and try to get bubbles out that way. Did it for almost half an hour until there was no bubbles left. Would it hurt if I use a conditioner like lucas to try to calm the whining? I saw a video of Scotty using Seafoam for tough turning steering wheels, I wonder if that would help with whining too.
Seaform is for cleaning, it's not a solution to leave just sitting around. You can use Lucas. Though just keep in mind that it is generally for leaks and seals. Since you replaced O-rings, I don't see the point as you stated there were no leaks either. Turning to key 2 won't do much to cycle it through after a flush. In order to get all the bubbles out, turning the wheel lock to lock is key to see if the pump be bad or not.
Well its not stiff, its pretty smooth. Should I live with it until its obvious it needs a replacement?
It's not for stiffness. It's to make sure it's properly bled. But anyways, Yeah doesn't hurt. Worst case if you lose power steering. Lol.
Have you changed the power steering fluid yet?
Yes, it was done 3 months ago.
