- Hey Scotty How Are Ya ? Can You Please Talk About The New V8 Lexus Is500 And is it a good reliable sport sedan when compared to the german rivals
It should be much reliable than German ones but it will have pretty expensive repairs down the road, similar to other V8 Toyota engines.
They are awesome but extremely expensive. Reliability will no doubt beat the Germans, but yeah...repairs will be astronomically expensive no doubt.
It’s the most reliable (relatively speaking) of the current luxury sport sedans - no arguing that. That V8 (albeit tuned for slightly more power) is essentially the same one used in the Lexus GS F, RC F, LC500, which that engine itself was based on the one in the Lexus IS F from the 2000’s so it has had well over a decade of refinement. And that longitudinal Aisin 8-speed auto has been out for a while so it’s true and tried as well with no issues I am aware of. And it’s electronics/tech are similar in other Lexus and Toyota products, which is a good thing for longevity. One of the bigger expenses down the line will be replacing the starter and knock sensor when they eventually fail but that’s well past 100,000 miles (usually) as well as paying the “Lexus tax” on repairs. This is not a vehicle I would want to put high mileage (same with any high performance vehicle). Overall though, compared to the Germans, you will have a much better experience in terms of reliability, and the vehicle itself is very fun to drive with an intoxicating exhaust note, also the last of the NA V8 engines in a luxury sports sedan.
