Hey Scotty, I bought a 2011 Ford escape AWD 3L v6 and there is a noticable sound in engine compartment other than the valve chatter haha. Sounds like a muffled tone not exhaust leak but maybe bearing noise???

Sounds like a muffled tone not exhaust leak but maybe bearing noise??? Hard to describe but I can't tell if on water pump side or other serpentine side. It's constant and does speed up with engine. All the good mechanics are busy and can't get to it for a while So I was hoping to kind of narrow it down before someone sees it. Watching YouTube the water pump does seem decently easy to do on my own although I'm kind of afraid of aluminum and ste el disassembly and having issues getting over my head. Anything common that goes bad that makes those groaning grinding sounds? But not really grinding exactly. Probably easier to diagnose with your own ears but maybe there's something common please and thank you. I would have stopped in Tennessee on my way by but you were already on the East Coast by then hahaha

When water pumps go bad, they usually leak - is there coolant weeping at the bearing? There are a number of bearings on you alternator, AC compressor, power steering pump, belt idler/tensioner, and such that can go bad and make noise. Take off the belt, run the engine for just long enough to hear if it still makes the noise. If not, check the various items for bad bearings - looseness, grinding, etc.

Thanks. I did not see any coolant on the water pump end. If I will try removing the serpentine belt. I believe the water pump belt cannot be removed without replacing with a new one
