- I own a 2011 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0L gas engine and 6L90 automatic transmission with 88,000 miles. I use the truck to tow a 10,000 pound fifth wheel every couple weeks. I think the truck handles the load very comfortably and will be a reliable truck for many more years. The issue is that I am getting 6-8 mpg while towing. People have recommended I use premium gas and my fuel cost is getting outrageous.
Would I be crazy to sell my truck and buy an older diesel truck with over 200,000 miles? I have been looking at the GM diesel trucks made between 2002-2007.

Yes diesels are much better for towing but you buy an old used diesel you may be buying a ticking time bomb that's why new ones cost so much
