Highlander 2004 with 162k miles strange noise

Hi Scotty,

I have a Toyota Highlander 2004 with 162k miles in NYC that makes a strange noise.

Youtube link here:

https://youtu.be/UoKFgjzjcMg

Battery tested ok, bluedriver says all good, alternator 6 months old from Autozone, all belts including timing belt and waterpump changed last year. The power steering fluid has probably never been changed (almost black). Do you think the noise comes from the old power steering fluid or is it something else?

Live data from Bluedriver:

Mass airflow rate = 0.5lb/min

Intake air temp = 120F

LT Fuel Trim bank 2 = 1.6%

ST Fuel Trim bank 2 = 2.3%

LT Fuel Trim bank 1 = 4.7%

ST Fuel Trim bank 1 = 2.3%

Thanks in advance 🙂

Stan

You're probably looking at new power steering pump.  Your video won't open or play.

Sorry you should be able to see the video now. Just switched it to public mode instead of private.

the moaning noise is definitely your power steering.

Changing the fluid *might* help a little bit, but most likely the pump is worn out.
