I just crashed my lovely 2004 Toyota Highlander V6 4WD with 175k miles in New York. I really liked this car especially with the 3rd row seating option. I am now hesitant to buy either exactly the same again (2004-2007 model) or the newer model from 2008. The newer model is slighly more expensive but that's fine. Both made in Japan. Which one would you pick with 150-170k miles in the NYC area?

You're talking about vehicles that are 17-20 years old. The determining factor is going to be how each vehicle was maintained over that lengthy period of time. Only a good mechanic giving a thorough inspection before purchase can tell you the whether a vehicle you are considering is worth buying.
