Honda AC

I drive a 2009 Honda Accord V6 automatic with around 90k miles. The car is in overall very good shape, but a few weeks ago my AC stopped working. From my understand the compressor would not engage. I took it to my mechanic who I have known for years and never had a problem with. He told me that I was going to need a new compressor and I did not have the money so I told him I would come back in a few weeks when I would be able to pay him for the work.  Around two weeks later out of my general curiousity I turned on the AC and it started working and it has been fine ever since. Do you have any idea what could have happened? I am worried my mechanic was trying to rip me off which would be an extreme disappointment. Thank you!!

It is probably low on refrigerant, possibly just on the edge of triggering the low pressure cutout switch so depending on ambient temperature it might or might not switch on. Compressors usually make noise or just seize up if they're bad. Can't really say much more without knowing exactly what your mechanic did to diagnose the problem.
