only been 3100 miles on it. put mobil 1 extended performance + mobil filter

car got 70k miles. originally owner said he changed every 3500 -5000 miles with dealer oil. was older gentlemen not a crook

why has it burned this much? i  usually change at 5000 miles. if it was the pcv would it have burned more? if i check it tomorrow and doesnt rattle then its not the problem right?

apparently its not a 10$ part for oem. dealer wants 50cad or 60 after tax

rock auto / ebay shipping cost more than the total so its not cheap

what should i do at this point? keep topping off? change pcv anyways?

Although Honda overall makes great engines, some are known to be prone to oil burning problems.

c hange pcv? keepin topping off forever?

Burning 1/2 quart of oil in 3100 miles is not the end of the world. (I believe that's what your photo is showing.) I'd say changing the PCV valve is worth doing to see if it helps. You didn't say what year the car is, but on older vehicles the valve stem seals can harden and leak as well which increases oil consumption.

It's also possible you have a minor oil leak rather than burning oil. It doesn't take much of a drip to add up to 1/2 quart in 3100 miles.
