Honda civic is not starting (no crank) despite an ok battery

2018 Honda Civic (10th gen.) CVT with sunroof. 21,000 miles

My car did not start last night. It is a smart entry model, and it goes straight to engine ‘ON’ mode without any crank(s). Lights and switches work fine, so the battery seems ok, plus it is only a few-months-old battery. I had an electrician have a look, he checked all fuses and battery, and said everything seems to be ok. Terminals are steady, there was minimal corrosion which we cleaned. Also tried to jump it, but again, no crank, went straight to ON mode. You just hear a very slight click when standing outside the car while trying to start it.

The strange thing is that the electronic parking brake is not disengaging and shift lever is not moving in ‘ON’ mode which it should and normally does. The brake light does come on when depressed. Electrician also checked the switches and fuses inside the cabin, and all tested ok.

Car is being driven less lately but it started normally less than a week ago.

Also note that an amber light showed up on the dash a few months ago. Verified it with the manual to be smart-entry system related. I mentioned it to the dealer at next routine maintenance a week later; they diagnosed it to be related to body control module (BCM). The part was not readily available, would have to be ordered, and said the issue is not critical. The dash light also went away after a couple of days.

Could it be down to that? Why wouldn’t the gear shifter move/e brake disengage? Is there a workaround to start the car so it can be taken to the dealer? I would appreciate any insight/awareness regarding the issue so that I know what to expect from Honda and their diagnosis/repairs. Thanks.

Well I would say I do. The ignition switch is bad. All you have some kind of electrical short. Often that could be a bad starter but you've got other problems and with that low mileage Honda starters generally don't wear out that fast
