Hi, I have a 1989 Honda Civic DX Hatchback with 154k miles on it and I can't start it with a normal key in the ignition. I had AAA come out and start it for me and the technician told me I need a new starter. The only way I can start the car is by placing a screwdriver with a rubber handle on the ignition bolt and having someone else turn the key in the ignition until the car starts. The car has been sitting in one spot now since October of this year and I haven't tried to start it until today. The guy I bought it from told me it has a new starter, but I'm not so sure. Do I need to get my starter replaced? Thank you.
Hello,
I'm sorry I don't understand your question.
if you can, remove starter, watch out on cables, be sure you remove battery cable first!, than bring it to an auto electrician he will check if works fine or not! this happens i saw on old tractors then key ignition is bad or broke, than people going on like that, but could be in your case to.. edit: repairing that kind of starter usually doesn't cost too much, 50$ max i hope
