Honda CR-V AC Fail (Again!)

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2004 Honda CR-V with 125,000 miles and it is in excellent condition. However, this is now the third time I've had complete (black death) failure of the AC system. First two repairs were at an independent shop (the owner is a good mechanic, I've known him since he worked at the local Honda dealership, and he now has his own shop). For the first fix, the recommendation was to replace the main components, but just flush the lines. For the subsequent failure the recommend was a complete replacement of everything. Now for this latest failure, I am considering going to the Honda dealer to get it fixed. Or should I give up and get a new car? I'm in SoCal so not having AC is not an option. What do you think, try again with the same guy, go to the dealer, or just give up and get a new one?

Thank you,

Kurt Klein

Why throw out the baby with the bath water?

Find an AC specialist in your area and get a second opinion first.

How much did you pay for the first 2 repairs?

Also, how many years apart are you having these failures? Were brand new or reman AC compressors used?
