Hey Scotty! I'm looking to buy either a used Honda CRV or Chevy Equinox. I'm not sure which year/trim to get for either of these(if i can find any). And if i cant find any of them, which crossover SUVs do you recommend that's similar to a CRV or Equinox? (Cos Rav4s are too pricey for me! Haha!)
Thanks in advance Scotty!
Stay away from the Equinox. A 2015 might be OK if cheap. Consider a Mazda in addition to the CRV. Sensible vehicles.
I’d go Honda CR-V without the turbo on that one. If you want one of the higher trims, get one from before 2016 as that’s why they switched to the problematic (oil dilution) turbo 1.5L engines.
@inthrustwetrust
Hi! So can I say the 2016 models are safe? Any after that is...not recommendable? And those engines, are you referring to the Earth Dreams Engines?
Well, no matter which year, stay away from the 1.5L turbos. Yes, they fall under the earth dreams engines. However, only their turbos had the oil dilution problems. Their earth dreams NA engines are still reliable.
2007-2011 CRV no question.
After 2013-14, they screwed up the CRV. New ones (any new Honda in that matter) should not be even thought about, oil gas dilution problem, which Honda calls normal...
Not sure about the new models, but the older Chevy Equinox's burned oil and the engines died early.
They sold like hotcakes here in Detroit. But the only older ones I see still running are generally driven by older folks, and likely have low miles.
@carlos
Yea, I'm from Idaho and I see plenty of Equinox around so am wondering are they really that good?
