Greetings Scotty! Big fan. I know you have a displeasure with Chevy. But id still love your opinion on a Diesel Colorado... Lookin to buy a brand new one. Do i tow alot? No... But I have a few toys i would move around from time to time. I also dont need a pick up.. But i like having it for when I need it. Im looking to maximize fuel economy mostly for my 80 mile a day commute mostly on a highway in NJ. i know DPFs are the worst thing ever done to diesels and that's my main concern.. My second question is, Im also a volunteer firefighter and im concerned about this or any vehicle with a turbo... Meaning running a bit hard to get to the station and shutting off upon my arrival to the building... Wont that be detrimental to the turbo? I supoose i could add turbo timer to let it cool and stabilize.
Thanks in advance and thanks for making your videos.. Always very helpful and informative.. Also, congratulations on 2 billion views!
Cheers, sir!

The baby Duramax in the Colorado/Canyon is the one to get. It doesn’t have nearly the horsepower of the V6 gasser, but the low end grunt is astounding. I drove one last year and it really feels like a proper diesel pickup. But more than that, it comes with the 6 speed (good) transmission, rather than the (terrible) 8 speed that has had so much trouble on the gasser Colorado.
It’s hard to get good owner feedback. I have only found one long-term owner. He loved it and was very happy with his decision; but that is a small sample size. The comments on the Duramax forums are few but mostly positive.
That said, there is a serious downside. The diesel has been cancelled for 2023, and finding a ‘22 won’t be easy. Not much inventory out there, new or used. And with so few of them around, getting service and repairs will be a challenge. (Call around to diesel shops in your area to make sure you can find someone who wants to service it.).
BTW: I put an order in for a diesel Canyon last fall. 3 months later, the dealer called me to say GM had cancelled my order. I ended up getting a Sierra with the 3L Duramax instead. I am very happy with it, though the experience was annoying.(I get about 26 mpg when I am not towing)
