Scotty, I know you are not the biggest fan in the world of GM, but I live in Minnesota and we do all city driving.
We haul our kids around in a 2010 GMC Yukon XL, 5.3L, AWD/4X4. It has 175,000 miles. I change the oil every 3,000 miles.
WHAT ELSE can I do to make this car last to 400,000 miles?

@ryanminnesota
you must change engine oil and transmission oil regularly. check your user manual. reconditions those seals, drive the car safe, if you drive 60 mph the gasoline can do its job to keep everything clean. what i can reccomend is clean all your parts and electric plugs with electric cleaner, ive used it in many cars even a 1994 lexus STILL running with original engine, well after using spray cleaner it runs smooth. My current car also had oil inside the plugs, i encourage you to find any leaky plug because that oil will get inside your computer and destroy it. i sprayed my cars computers alot of times already, works flawlessly. remember RESISTANCE is your car enemy, same goes for RUST

@ryanminnesota
GMC redesigned the valve cover for the 2007-2011 Yukon with Active Fuel Management. The original valve cover was allowing engine oil to enter the cylinders. Here is the NHTSA service bulletin, just copy, paste and search. 10-06-01-008F

But 2007-2009 GM trucks with this engine still report engine oil consumption..... right?

@ryanminnesota
I would recommend oil undercoating it salt just rust everything out. I would check your coolant make sure it is still good like someone already said get it on the highway once in a while to clean it out check rubber hoses for dry rot or cracks you blow a coolant hose and dont relize it you can do a lot of damage

Just continue with regular maintainence.

@lol_why
Im looking for specific things to do for preventative maintenance on these trucks for longevity. There are lots of them on the road so I would love specific things to do for preventative maintenance..... how often should fluids be changed? Should I replace starter, alternator, before they go out?

Consult the owners manual for fluid change intervals. For starters and such, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

If you had this since new and now it has 175k miles, you must be doing something right lol so just keep up regular maintainence you were doing this far.

@lol_why
I purchased the car 2 years ago it was at 150,000.

It was in Arizona for a couple years so it’s not rusty yet.

Any other tips?

I would rather fix stuff early instead of waiting for it to break if I know it’s going to go out soon on a 10 year old truck in Minnesota 🙂 cold winterS, and mostly city driving here for our family.

Need to BABY this car and make it last forever

You might want to look at this site to see what other owners of this model/year have had problems with, the Technical Service Bulletins, etc.
