I have 2011 rav4 auto 2.4l azh engine 230k kms in it. The owner’s manual says 4.3-4.1l engine oil needs to be filled with filter. It seems even with 4l it is an overfill as per dipstick.
I used 5w-30 (castrol edge synthetic 5w-30 engine oil 5l) from auto shop and toyota oil filter (90915-yzze2) bough from toyota dealer.
I drove the car for 120kms and noticed not smooth driving. Therefore, i drain 500ml of oil and it seems driving is better. Did not check the oil level yet.
What do you do when it comes to filling engine oil-do you follow owner’s manual or trial and error till you get "full" mark?
I usually start with about 75% of the capacity in the owner's manual (make sure you're looking at the correct engine size).
Then I start the engine, and rev it up over 2,000 RPM for about 10 seconds and then I check for drips/seepage from drain plug and the oil filter. Then I shut down the engine and wait a few minutes. Then I adjust the oil level using the dipstick. Then I monitor it for a couple of days.
Are you checking the oil level on a cold or warm engine? Is it on a level surface? What does your owner’s manual procedure recommend?
It was cold when I check the level. on a level ground
Pretty sure your owner’s manual will call for the oil to be warm (engine turned off for a few minutes after coming to temperature), while checking the oil level. Post back the results after checking it warm, on a level surface.
