Hello, I have a 2018 Honda Accord LX with a CVT transmission and 1.5L turbo with about 27000 miles on it, I was wondering how often I should change the transmission fluid?
What does the owner’s manual say? If it’s not listed I would go for every 30,000-40,000 miles especially for a CVT to get as much life out of the transmission. Personally, I would do it every 30,000 miles.
It only says to change every 25000 if you drive at low speeds in mountainous areas, but most of my miles are highway miles in very flat terrain (TX). Otherwise it only gives information to change it when the maintenance minder tells you to change it (displays a 3). I'm also not sure if my CVT has a filter in it as well, if it does should I change it whenever I change the fluid as well? I'm planning on having it changed at the dealer and would I have to tell them to change the filter along with the fluid? Thanks for the advice though!
Do a drain and fill only. You should always change the filter when you change the fluid. Now whether it has it or not - I am not sure. The previous generation did. Will have to research.
Ah, I understand now. Thanks a lot!
Typically it is 5 year/60k miles that is recommended.
HOWEVER, due to this particular drivetrain being a CVT, I would suggest shortening that interval to a 3 year/40k mile drain and fill.
I see, I also had some doubts about changing it at 60k but now it makes sense. Thanks a lot!
You're welcome. 🙂
Every 30-40k miles, and make sure to check out the FAQ because there is a page for this topic.
You would want to inspect the fluid as well. The wear differes depending on conditions. You may need to change it every 30k miles because of city usage and its a CVT, or you might be able to do 40 50k miles because of highway miles.
Yes, I will definitely keep that in mind before posting questions from now on. Thanks for the info!
