I have a 09 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 that is squeaking when I turn left or right. It doesn't sound as if it's coming from the power steering but from the suspension. I looked under the truck and saw that the steering damper is leaking fluid and the shaft is shiny. Could this be the reason for the squeaking or should I be looking somewhere else? The sound is like a rubber squeak and not a power steering pump whine. Thanks for the help!
Im gonna say it could be the damper squeeking. if you're not 1,000% sure have someone check it out but that would be my guess
Ok thank you!
The leaky steering damper is not good, so wouldn't leave it that way a lot longer, you don't want it to develop "the front end wobble".
Might also be the front axle u-joints, to check jack the truck up and spin the wheels by hand. With the wheel straight should spin freely. Then turn the steering wheel, if it binds up then they're the problem. Also check any other suspension parts especially the ones with zerk fittings, might need some grease.
Ok thank you!
