I have a 2011 Ford Focus with 260,000 miles and I think I can feel the transmission downshifting(at least I think it’s the transmission) and the shifts aren’t smooth unless I make it shift around 3 grand what can I do or should I do
Congratulations on reaching more than 250K on the Focus. My surmise is that this is not common, for the Focus.
What should you do? I'd get a general diagnostic inspection of the vehicle, a holistic appraisal, before sinking any serious money into the car. How much rust on the frame? What is the wet and dry compression of the engine? How's the HVAC? And so forth.
Get that done, first, by a good diagnostic mechanic who isn't trying to make a fast buck on the vehicle. Then decide where you'll go, from there.
@geriscan Is right. You got your money out of it that's for sure.
Now before you throw good money at it, make sure it is worth repairing first.
Unfortunately those were weak transmissions. It may be that you got lucky and it is the torque converter but chances are that it is the transmission.
That's a lot of miles for a Focus transmission
Lots of highway driving but yes and I’ve just done regular maintenance and it still has to original struts
Should I change my fluid and filter again I did it not long ago but it didn’t get all of it out obviously so it wouldn’t hurt And if I do should I use some Lucas transmission fix
