  1. 2020 Camry Se Nightshade. (2.5L in-line 4cylinder) FWD
  2. Transmission: ECT-I Automatic With Manual Mode
  3. Certified Pre-Owned from the Toyota dealership @19,600 miles (purchased in March/April 2021)
  4. 33,670 miles now.
  5. Had no issues for the first 9-10K miles

When Accelerating at normal rate from a stop position every so often my car will start to jump forward then slow then jump again in very fast rotation. Like it is switching between two gears as I’m accelerating. The RPMS will jump up and down as this happens and my car is lunging forward then loses power then Lunges again(putting me back in my seat)

This has happened about a dozen times sense I have gotten this car. I have taken it in every 5k miles for a inspection / tire rotation & oil every 10K miles as recommended by Toyota dealer.

I have notified the dealer about this issue and they have ran diagnostics and have came up with nothing, they say the car is in great condition.

They have tried to clean the air intake sensor in hopes of that helping.(it has not)

One small issue that started before this was a metal on metal noise that happens when I first switch to drive and go forward. Does not happen every time so very hard to get on camera. Usually happens when the temperatures drop.(rarely heard If ever during summer)

I have yet to take to any mechanic other than the Toyota dealership. Any suggestion and or advise would be greatly appreciated!!

P.S looking to put aftermarket exhaust on it (Magna flow) and do not want to until this is fixed as I don’t want to void my warranty, the car is STOCK right now, nothing aftermarket.

THANK YOU!!! {black}

10K miles is way too long between oil and filter changes. Should be 5K miles if you want it to last.

Dealerships are typically blind to problems less obvious than a wheel falling off in order to avoid unprofitable warranty work. Maybe you'd have better luck at a different dealer. (If anyone but a Toyota dealer does mechanical work on the car it may void your warranty, you'd have to read the fine print.)

Okay wow….. that’s great to know!

Dealership told me that with this newer car and the Synthetic Oil 7,500-10,000 miles I should change it. So every other appointment they change it.

Do you believe this has caused my issues ?

I doubt the extended oil change interval has anything to do with the issues you are experiencing, it's mainly a matter of long-term engine life. Since there are not many miles on it yet there should be no damage done, you'll be OK moving forward sticking with a 5K oil change interval.

The dealership is lying to avoid paying for expensive transmission work.  Whatever warranty is probably worthless.  "Certified Pre-Owned" is meaningless.  The dealership will never find anything wrong that they are responsible for.  Demand that they fix it and good luck.

Almost seems like the TCM is outputting bad data to the transmission, is receiving bad data (a bad TPS?), or the transmission has an internal issue. I think you need someone who can analyze a car properly to figure out where the faulty is (someone like scotty).

P.S. Take the above advice about oil change intervals, dealerships dont mind selling you an engine if the original one wears out due to long interval period over time.

P.S.S. Dont get an exhaust for this car... I'm okay with some sports cars having an exhaust kit (like a WRX or Camaro), but not a camry.
