Hello all, I have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ with the 4.0L and it hasn’t ran since 2008. I was wondering what I should use to have the best chance at getting this baby back on the road. I’m an 18 y/o who loves cars and needs advice on what produces or methods work the best. Thank you!
After sitting for 13 years all the fluids need to be changed and the gas tank and fuel system cleaned out, it's likely the old gas has turned into gum and varnish. You might want to pour a little Marvel Mystery Oil down the cylinders to lubricate them and make sure the engine is free to turn by hand, not locked up. It's a good bet the fan belt will need to be replaced, possibly coolant hoses as well. Brake system needs to be flushed out with fresh fluid, replace old rubber brake hoses and any questionable hydraulic parts. Tires will need to be replaced. Obviously if it had something wrong with it that led it to be parked in 2008 that will need to be repaired as well.
Don't forget new spark plugs! Also, a can of PB Blaster will be your friend.
I'd just change all the fluids and drive all the old gas out of it, those 4.0s are pretty well made so I doubt it would be locked up just from sitting for 13 years. Though obviously you'd need to fix anything else that's broken before you drive it anywhere.
