Sometime in the next 5 years I plan to buy another car and will probably get one that is 5 to 10 years old. I have four criteria: manual transmission, good handling, luxury trim, and a naturally aspirated engine. The best choices these days appear to be between the Toyota/Subaru GR86/BRZ and the Acura Integra. The GR86/BRZ has a cheap interior; the Integra has a nice interior but a turbocharger.
I am obsessive about caring for my car and keeping ahead of problems with preventative maintenance. If I am light on the throttle, diligent about oil changes, and committed to giving the engine a minute to idle before shutting it down (among other things) will I be able to keep the engine from burning out? Also, how can I tell if a previous owner has been hard on an engine?

Have a good mechanic give it a thorough examination before purchase.
