Hyundai Elantra

Hey I have a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. For months I have been having the same problem. I got a oil change from Walmart and once I got the oil change my car began to lose power. Doesn't shut off but just loses power the oil pressure light comes on and the battery light comes on at the same time. I turn the car off and back on the car drives just fine. It doesn't do it every day sometimes it can go a whole week. I got the oil pressure switch replaced. It wasn't that. I took my car to O'Reilly's and they checked the engine light the codes were 02 sensor and catalytic converter. However I took my car to Hyundai and they didn't mention neither of these things. They told me it was a air mass flow sensor. And my timing belt. So I got the sensor fixed but now I don't know what to do. Before I go paying $800 for a timing belt I need to know for sure if that's the problem. Should I listen to Hyundai and get the timing belt or should I get a catalytic converter. Or what else could be wrong with my car? I'm not sure what to get fixed

If that car still has its original timing belt after 15 years it's past time to have it replaced regardless. Get that done at a good independent mechanic rather than a stealership or chain shop, and have the other problems diagnosed there as well.

Check the battery connections. Start with load testing the battery and alternator. Do you also have access to live data?

Wym by live data?

What do you mean by "Wym"?

What oil did you put ?

Not sure I'd have to call Walmart and see. Do you think it has something to do with the oil that was used?

Could have been, if you got a code for the oil not showing up it means that a bubble or two blew past the sensor causing it to throw a code. If your car took 5w-30 and then put in something like diesel oil, it's a Walmart, Idk what they do. Then yeah it can cause issues, considering the car is still running it probably wasn't this extreme though.

No oil codes....I took it to O'Reilly's and the only codes were an O2 sensor and catalytic converter. So far I have changed the mass air flow sensor, O2 sensor, spark plugs, and even got a new oil change however when I took my car to a different place other than Walmart only a few weeks went by and they told me I needed an oil change which was weird because like I said I had just got one. I' got the converter checked and was told it was good. So I'm not sure what the problem could be this is very frustrating

Have you tried replacing the oil again? My suspicion is that something is wrong with that oil.

When having this kind of issues service immediately. If you engine wasn't getting lubricated by the correct oil, quite honestly - start looking at junkyard engines.

Replace the oil with the correct spec, connect an all-system scanner - look at live data if anything jumps out.

As far as the timing belt - it's probably not a diagnosis, but an important maintenance item that should also be done. You should replace the timing belt every once in a while, 15 years is wayyyy too long and you are risking bricking your engine (But maybe it's already bricked if the indication about low oil pressure are correct)

I have changed the oil after that. Only a few weeks went by and I had to get another oil change. It honestly seems like I'm getting oil changes way more often than what I should be. I think it's something with the oil to I just don't know what. I got the oil pressure switch changed, changed the oil, got a 02 sensor an air mass flow sensor, new spark plugs. My converter is good. I have only have the car since September of 2020 I'm not sure when the last time a timing belt was changed but I have not driven the car 60,000 miles as they say is recommended for my car new timing belt. The last owners said they had it changed just a few months before I bought it but I honestly don't know. I'm almost about to just give up because no one seems to know what is really wrong with my car. Everyone who has test drove it says it runs fine . But seems like when they have it the oil light and battery doesn't come on like he does for me. Car does even shut off it just loses power, turn it off I turn it back on then it runs fine. So idk

I also got the valve cover gasket replaced and pcv valve

What do you mean by “I had to get another oil change”?

I had to get another oil change just a few weeks after the one from Walmart.....

Why?  Why another oil change?  Why do you keep taking your car to these chain operations that just keep ripping you off.  Find an honest independent mechanic in your area and stay away from these cheap, discount, rarely do the job right outfits.  You are certainly NOT saving any money.

I'm really having trouble figuring out just what's going on with this one, @doc. It appears that this car has been subjected to being "serviced" by a string of incompetents and ripoff artists, and may have not been maintained very well overall (possibly has original 15-year-old timing belt).

I don't know, Chuck Tobias. I don't think we are getting all the information to help this person. Like you said, a string of incompetents would be my guess too.
