Hey Scotty, so I'm curious about the 2009-12 models of the Hyundai Genesis sedan with the 4.6L V8 in it (no GDI, thank God!). I've seen some people straight pipe the vehicle and it sounds pretty awesome in my opinion but with the vehicle having 16 mpg on the city with 385 horsepower, what's your opinion on that car?
I wouldn't touch anything that reads Hyundai/Kia/Genesis period.
Why the downvote? Do you like Hyundai vehicles?
I hope you have very deep pockets...

These are junk, disposable vehicles.
4.6L V8
First of all, the Tau is an awesome engine - looking online, it doesn't like cold climates, the chain can skip in those.
When people talk about engine issues on these they mean the Lambda.
On these you also get the same transmission as an Aston Martin Rapide so it can handle the V8 - unlike modern cars.
The powertrain on it is really quite good, but as with any Hyundai of that area boroscoping the cylinders is a good idea.

As with any V8 sedan, that's NOT a car you buy to daily.
As a TOY: where else are you going to find a safe modern V8 sedan that's not even that unreliable.
It was already packed with some features that can become a pain to fix like keyless start, so that's a bit on an issue.
But that's pretty much all luxury V8 sedans and it's probably going to be cheaper to fix on a Hyundai than an AMG.
Although parts availability is probably spotty...
As a daily: I really do NOT recommend dallying this one.
