it’s a 03 impala with close to 160k miles. the scan tool showed that it needed a tps sensor, that didn’t work. we ended up replacing ever sensor in the throttle body (tps sensor, idle air control, and mass air flow) that still didn’t fix the problem. after replacing them 3 sensors we noticed that the cat was glowing red, the cat was clogged. got that fixed and it is still running rough. don’t know much more to do. there is no vaccum leaks. can you please help? the starter is about to go out now. when the car does start, it idles around 3,000 rpm’s put it in drive or reverse it idles close to 1,000 but wants to shut off and will if you don’t give it some gas but still will eventually.

p0443 and p0122. replaced the tps. sensor reset codes both came back on but p0102 came on. replaced the mass air flow sensor, reset codes and the p0102 was gone but it didn’t help. the car actually didn’t even start after putting in the new sensors. car didn’t even start with the with the new sensors! (but even before changing the sensors, the car has to be cranked over a few times before it starts most of the times. sometimes i can go out there and it will start on the first crank but idles very bad) i’ve changed out the tps sensor 3 different times. got one from the junk yard then bought 2 new ones. each time the p0122 code would come back up. after all of that i just returned the parts from the auto part store after seeing the cat glow red. i thought that the clogged cat was the problem but it wasn’t. i don’t know what else to do. every sensor has been changed out on the throttle body. kept the idle air control one in there. thank you!

i don’t see why the p0122 code stays there when the tps sensor has been replaced with a 2 different new ones and one used original one
Did you use OEM sensors?
i don’t believe so. the scan tool shows tps sensor i’ve had 2 different new sensors and 1 from the junk yard and the code still came up after replacing the sensor and deleting the code. it even brought up mass airflow sensor one time after replacing tps sensor. still didn’t fix it. thank you!
Disconnect the MAF sensor. Your car should run fine without it. If it does, the MAF sensor is faulty.

what happens if you keep trying to drive the car with a clogged cat? because i bought this car to fix from someone. while i was test driving it, it was riding very good. on the way back it just shut off. started it back up and it seemed perfectly fine. parked it back where the guy lived and that’s when it idled very bad and wouldn’t stay running. so after thinking a little bit the cat was probably clogged at that time which is probably what made it shut off. so i was just trying to find out if it kept being drove like that made it how it is now? i did have to drive it like that for about 10 miles to where i live which probably wasn’t the smartest choice but barley made it back. shut off in traffic a few times and each time took longer to start. hopefully that can help to know what’s wrong with this car. (btw testing driving it before it did shut down the engine seemed very good. didn’t hesitate at all. we also messed with a vaccum line that the guy said was wrong with it. just put a new vaccum line on and we drive it to the store which wasn’t far at all. it hiccuped twice we was going around 50. while pulling into the gas station it just shut off wouldn’t start was able to get it started with a new tps sensor to get it back to the house. but really it just seems like there’s not enough air to the motor like something else is clogged as well.
