What is your opinion on the Hyundai Veloster? What kind of issue are they prone to have & are they worth owning as a affordable daily car? Also is the drive train reliable, can I get a auto transmission with little to no issue?
They are decent cars, but there are certainly better options out there. The engines on those are not that great - they tend to rattle and wear out relatively quickly. I personally would not buy one. If you want a sporty automatic hatchback, look for a Mazda 3 hatchback. They are much better built and don’t have engine or transmission problems.
They are a Hyundai, so automatic pass from me.
That said, the Turbo would be the only one worth considering if you are looking at them. The styling is good but the quality is lacking.
Which year or years are you looking at, and which transmission (manual, automatic, dual-clutch)? How long and how many miles do you expect to put on the vehicle? (Basically how long do you need it to last for?). Hyundai quality is not that great in general and it’s not advisable to keep them beyond 100,000 miles; in other words, I would only keep that car under warranty and then get rid of. But if you are looking at this class vehicle have you looked at vehicles from the other brands?
A automatic or dual clutch would be nice, turbo possibly & the first gen. That is what I was thinking of owning.
I love the looks and if I thought Hyundais were reliable I'd get one. I don't think they are reliable though, and from what I've read the non-turbo ones are woefully underpowered, and the turbo ones while more powerful would likely be worse money pits.
If you were going to buy one new and sell it before the warranty runs out, I guess it wouldn't matter. But I would not get one if I planned on keeping it a long time. And I hate it because I love the looks, but as I get older reliability becomes much more important than looks in just about everything.
If your looking for a vehicle that will fall in front of your eyes and leave you stranded on the highway with a blown up engine this is the car for you!
