The vehicle I am about to speak about is my second van since my previous mishap with the first van.
I live in New York State where all the mechanics are out to rob people out of their hard earned money.
I recently bought a 2014 Ford E-250 Super Duty 4.6L V8. It has almost 200,000 miles(197k) and only had one other owner. It was a vehicle to a commercial fleet in Missouri. The Car appears to be in great shape and drives like a beauty and I really need to maintain that and make this van last as long as possible. I lost my previous van(2000 GMC Savana 2500) to a oil leak and the engine had seized. I am really trying to prevent that from happening again. I work and am all over the city and just have no real way of knowing where or when it could leak or spill out.
For a vehicle like this what oil type is best to make sure this car lasts? I had a mechanic tell me Synthetic blend is best because it's "Thicker" and "helps the engine have less wear". is this true?
I hear a squealing noise in the belt when I accelerate, what could this be?
I had recently taken it to get an oil change a little over a week ago and just now heard knocking noises when the car was idling in park. The knocking noise was out of no where and was kind of loud and sounded like it was coming from the front but underneath the car. It knocked for maybe 15 seconds then stopped then a minute later continued for another 15 seconds. I tried to see if it was the AC or not by turning it on and off but I couldn't tell. I immediately began driving home once I heard the knocking for the second time and heard no knocking while I was driving nor when I was standing idling parked in my driveway 10 minutes later. I am paranoid now.
Car does not want to go over 80 MPH when on Highway, Should I be concerned?
Car air blower makes noise but no airflow comes out from the vents at all. How can I fix this?
Mechanic sold me on a emission system cleaner so I can get better gas mileage, Is this even legit?
Please help me out I just am trying to really be able to know what's wrong with my car before any mechanic knows that way I can handle whatever situation more effectively without paying mechanics to do work to the vehicle that isn't needed.
You need to find a good mechanic to go over the van, front to back. And DON'T go back to the mechanic to who told you synthetic oil is thicker than conventional.....its not. It is actually thinner, in fact.
With high mileage, if the van has been running conventional oil, keep using conventional. Swapping to synthetic will find every worn gasket you have and create oil leaks as the thinner oil finds it's way around the worn rubber seals.
For the other items, I'd find a good mechanic to check it out in person.

No, but it is better.

Yes. V8's go faster than 80mph.
