Hello everyone, I’ve never been in a situation like this before, please give me some advice. I took my crown Victoria into a shop just to get it inspected for my workplace and it is my personal vehicle, it was running perfectly fine before this and the shop that inspected it said it was “the cleanest car” they seen no issues but they said the hub bearings are getting worn but nothing to worry about now, anyways this isn’t the issue, so when I got it back it ran fine home, but the next day I started it up to go to work it was shuttering and backfiring like crazy out of nowhere and completely shutoff on the highway… so I called them back to ask exactly what they did and they got super defensive and said we didn’t do anything but look at it, it seems so coincidental that all of a sudden it’s not working anymore after I took it in for a inspection. So I towed it off the highway with my truck and went to work so I had no time to check the codes yet, but there was no check engine light or the wicked wrench light. Sorry for a long story

I wouldn't be surprised  if they didn't intentionally disconnect or loosen a vacuum line to create business for themselves.

Before jumping to conclusions, find out what the problem is.

Make sure they put the spark plug wires back on in the right order, etc.

If you have doubts about the shop you went to, then go to a different one and explain the situation.

I found no problems with the car I checked the spark plugs and coil packs, I also checked the vacuum lines and there are no breaks in the lines and they are plugged in, what’s also kinda weird is my obd2 scanner doesn’t pick up on any codes either. However it showed the catalyst monitor didn’t complete whatever it does so that is the only thing that showed up red, no codes though, I mean I’m not trying to be the wet blanket to them but it’s very coincidental

In our family we had various examples of what car mechanics can do to a car of someone who (as they suppose) does not understand cars, to make him or her visit them frequently  and pay them money - from relatively harmless loosening of battery terminals to pouring water into spark plug wells (of coil-on-plug systems) or throwing objects into the under-the-windshield rain drainage to simulate "horrible engine rattling" which would cost thousands to fix. On my own car, they went so far to loosen the turbine fastening screws!

It sucks because a lot of my friends recommended me to this shop just to find out it’s a sham show, essentially I spent money to what looks to me a potential parts cannon they want to throw at me

Once they "forgot" a steel ruler on my car battery (which is located under the rear seat) in such a way that due to normal vibrations it was doomed to be sporadically shortening the positive terminal against the car body causing sporadic ECU outages... I mean, I cannot tell what they did to your car: what I am trying to say, is that it could be virtually anything: they are very resourceful when it comes to dirty tricks.

Yeah I’m just wondering if there is a way to get them to I don’t know refund or give me an explanation of what they did, I don’t go to the mechanics often but for my workplace I had to get it inspected, I’m going to look at the car after work, it’s just I hate dishonesty I’ll probably just swallow it and let it go

I do not believe that they ever tell you what they´ve done. This would be equal to confessing that they are criminals. If I were you, I would just do my best to find an honest mechanic asap - if you have a car, you in any case need at least one honest mechanic you can entrust your car to, cause not even having watched all Scotty´s videos will you be able to really fix everything on your car yourself. And once you found one, have him find and fix what they´ve done, for the start
P.S. Of course there is always a slight chance that it was pure coincidence, but if you ask me - I do not believe in such coincidences, since I never had them in my life.

Yeah I hear you, I just hope they didn’t put water on my spark plugs lol that would suck, thank you for your input I do appreciate it
